Pollock Pines and Camino are located on the incline of Highway 50 as it begins its climb from Placerville to South Lake Tahoe. The five-mile stretch between the two cities features a 1,000-foot increase in elevation from 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Although Pollock Pines receives some snow during the winter, both towns are basically situated above the fog line and below the snow line, providing residents of real estate owners with four distinct seasons.
Pollock Pines has its own school district that serves students kindergarten through 8th grade through three local schools. Camino has one school serving grades K through 8th. High-school students from both communities attend El Dorado High School in Placerville, part of the El Dorado Union School District. Two community college districts also serve the county and offer more than forty business related courses.
